PITCH MARKS!!!
It's disapointing to see the number of un-repaired pitch marks on the greens increasing. It only take 6 seconds for you to repair your pitch mark but it takes 6 weeks for the green to repair it's self. If you are unsure how to repair a pitch mark properly then please watch the short video clip under the greenkeepers section. If you repair your own pitch mark plus one more then there should never be any marks on the green.
Whitehaven Ladies took part in the national Pink Day to help raise awareness for Breast Cancer. Ladies Captain, Mrs Joan Daly, is presentining a cheques for £120 to the Breast Screening Department at West Cumberland Hospital
JUST a short message to thank all the lady members for their support on Sunday 17th. We managed to raise £301 for the captain's charities. I would also like to thank all the gentlemen who supported us on the day by buying various tickets. The winner of the "Lady Captain's Drive" guess was Mrs Linda Cobban. The "Guess the Glen" malt whiskey was won by Jimmy Morgan. Anyone who did not collect their raffle prize on the day may collect it from the bar in the clubhouse.
Thank you again
Joan Daly

Pictured are last years Club Captain Darran Cherry & Club member Gary Batty, Gary was the winner of the clubs' first ever Captains Draw allowing one person to WIN their Membership for One year
Darran said I was really pleased with the response of Club members and Non members who bought a number to try and win their Membership. After paying for Gary's Membership the Captains Charity made £75. So thank you to all who participated.
The outgoing captains at Whitehaven Golf Golf presented cheques, after 12 months of fund raising, to their chosen charities. Darran Cherry and Joanne Quirk set about trying to raise as much money with numerous events ranging from fancy dress golf competitions to social evenings. Darran said that his favourite event during the year was the “Celebrity Starz in their Eyes” evening which was a sell out. Darran would like to thank all the professional artists who gave their the time and talent free of charge.
Joanne's highlight of the year was the “Longest Day of Golf” which involved three rounds of golf in one day, teeing off at 5:30 am at Keswick, then on to Workington and finishing at Whitehaven around 9 pm. Both would like to thank the Golf Club members for all their support over the last year. Receiving a cheque for £3000 on behalf of the Copeland branch of the MS Society were Susan Etchells and Christopher Greening. Thanking Darran and the Golf club Susan pointed out that many people are under the misconception that the NHS fund the mobility aids for MS suffers. “This is not the case and that the MS Society relies on the generosity of the public and the hard working volunteers getting out and shaking tins in the street”.
Joanne presented Ann Cartmell from the Breast Unit at West Cumberland Hospital with a cheque also for £3000, Ann was delighted and again thanked the Golf Club and the members for a fantastic effort.
